S/Sgt. Guy N. Shipe
The radio operator's position was in the upper fuselage
aft of the cockpit. Sgt. Shipe of Pennsylvania sat for hours on end
listening to the static crackling in his ears and giving position reports every
30 minutes, assisting the navigator in taking fixes and informing headquarters
of targets attacked and results. When needed, Sgt. Shipe manned the top
turret guns.
